It is important to give praise to your star employees, not because they are good at what their do, doesn’t mean they do not want to hear their boss say, â€Å"good job† or â€Å"well done.† Another good way is to let them know exactly what the company’s goals are and think about other strategies that will include them. However, in business there is always that risk of failure, so you will want to devise a plan that will help avoid the four main failure mechanisms of small business which are: Managerial incompetence or inexperience Neglect Weak control systems Insufficient capital In order to avoid managerial incompetence or inexperience, business owners must find different ways to develop their management skills, don’t depend only on common sense. Being competent in this phase of the business is extremely important for the foundation of the business. These skills allow you to make better decisions on, dealing with emergencies, recruiting, purchasing, book keeping, marketing, training, planning etc. To avoid failure business owners need to identify the things that is needed to be accomplished, their need to ensure that they organize their resources; they need to pay close attention to the performance and the task completion (need to be will informed). Business owners also need to look ahead and make plans for any future requirements and try dealing with any problems that may arise. Avoiding neglect, business owners need to set aside devoted time for their business in order to succeed, especially in the starting up stages of the business. They need to pay attention to every detail of the business and its workers. Show your managers and employees that you are totally involved in the running of you business and that you need to be informed on any matter that relates to the business. Having a weak control system is also damaging to a business. Business owners need to an open communication between their employees and focus on growing the company profits before offering credit possibilities to it customers. Starting a business with the right amount of capital can also lead to a successful business. First you need to ensure that you have at least one year’s capital because most new business start seeing profits after the first 6 months of business. Culture is defined as everything that occurs in a society. It consists of all the customs and practices handed down from generation top generation. According to Geertz, culture is a ‘system of shared meaning', although he finds this definition to be rather ambiguous and prefers to delve into the details of culture that are found within subcultures and countercultures. Culture is also integral in explaining the way in which society works and functions. It helps to explain the reasons behind people's action and beliefs and why societies follow the normatives that they do. It also helps to explain the reason that societies conform to the guidelines that are presented, however, it lacks in explaining why and how these guidelines are constituted and assembled. Culture is also useful in predicting what a society considers to be common sense. There are certain facets of life that a person begins to accept with question which are highly impart due to cultural expectations. From a very early age, a child knows that they are not supposed to talk to strangers, or accept candy from a stranger, or get in a car with a stranger, etc. Children are often taught these ‘rules' by their parents or teachers even though, at a young age, the child would not know or understand the consequence of breaking one of these rules. These are things that are ingrained into our minds at a young age and it is only when we are mature enough to understand the full meaning of each guideline that we begin to question them. Another example is learning not to touch a plate that has just been taken out of the over or off the stove (or any other hot plate). We often learn not to do this through conditioning but it is an idea that exists throughout all cultures - d o not touch something hot because you will just get burned. Defining Categories and the Tread of Commitment - Essay Example I suppose that seeing a list of these pieces of my life is enough to assume certain things that are between the lines of the listed items. For example, being male, white, upper class and having access to our highly successful family business means that I lead a life of privilege, to some extent. Being Christian, specifically Baptist, means that I have a well-shaped sense of morality and a well-developed conscience. Being Republican and having a successful family business means that I am pro-business and believe in the importance of hard work, planning and self-sufficiency. Being young and university educated means that I have dreams and a set of skills to attain them. Being male, in these times, is often confusing. As a Christian male, I am called to leadership in family, church and community. As an ambassador of Christ, I must always set a high example to others. I have a strong responsibility to protect family, church and community, with dedication and integrity, as a soldier of Ch rist. My first loyalty, my first priority, is to God and not to worldly success or social status (Community Christian Alliance Church, nd). On the other hand, as a family businessman, I am expected to work toward increasing success, attract more business and more money, and be dedicated to the goals of our company, while still remembering that my real treasure is Christ and salvation. As a male student, I am expected to relate to other students I meet out in the world, neighbors and people I bump into somehow. I am sometimes presented with temptations and distractions that conflict with Baptist Christian values. I spend a lot of time supporting our family’s international software business, so my priorities are not totally aligned with those of many students I meet. As a 22 year old, I do not always feel confident in my leadership and ability to protect. The information I get from films, newspaper and the news tells me just how complicated the world is, and I wonder how my par ents are sure that the answers they have chosen for our family are the right ones. I have no complaints about those answers. I fit into them comfortably enough and they feel right as I live them. But I have thought, sometimes, about how, if I had been born into a different family, even a family very opposite to my own, I would have different values and maybe a different religion and I would think in a totally different way. Or if I had been adopted, and still had the same genetic material I have now, but was just raised by different people, in a different social class, maybe by Democrats or maybe by a father who works in a factory or perhaps by a single mother, then who would I be? What would I believe? How would I behave? I can give myself a headache, just thinking of all the possibilities! Fortunately I am happy to be who I am. I enjoy my studies and my work. I am interested in keeping up with the political situation in our country and abroad. I find it fascinating to gain glimpse s into other cultures, other ways of doing things. Our software business operates nationally and internationally and handles contracts in the public and government sectors, so I gain a broader exposure to the world around me than some young people my age.
